What Liberal Media Bias?

Yesterday I posted about the Ann Coulter controversy and I made the LUDICROUS assertion that the uproar about her comments indicated a media bias.  I even got a comment telling me to “get real” in my crazy belief that there is a bias to the mainstream media.  That is, that the mainstream (liberal) media was making a lot more of her comments because she is a darling of the Right than they would if she had been a Left wing pundit.  I know, I know, I’m a part of some vast right wing conspiracy that believes such nonsense like a liberal bias to the mainstream media.

Well, apparently, I’m not alone.  Brent Bozell on Town Hall.com had this to say about the whole Ann Coulter thing and the media bias, saying:

By selecting the story the liberals want reported, and ignoring the stories conservatives want reported, it’s clear that the media elite aren’t in the “news” business. They’re in the liberal publicity business.

You can (and should) read the rest of the article here.  I don’t know why liberals want to deny that there is a bias in the media.  I guess they think that if they can convince us that there is no bias that we will believe that everything that is handed to us by the mainstream media is genuine and accurate.  Do they think that we are that stupid?  Then again, perhaps if you are a liberal and lean that way, you honestly think that the media is being accurate because it jives with what you believe.

Oh, and please don’t point out that there are sometimes stories that are critical of the Left in the mainstream media.  Of course there are.  Just because there is a bias doesn’t mean that you won’t EVER hear bad things about liberals… duh.  Not to mention, there is now (thankfully) no longer a monopoly on the news like there used to be, now that we have other sources for our news like the Internet, blogs, and Fox News.  But, in general in the mainstream media, you will hear more bad about the conservatives, more good about the liberals.  That’s what a bias means.  For example, you heard a lot of Rush Limbaugh and his drug problem, they had a field day with that in the media.  Did you hear about the Clinton supporter, also in Palm County, who was convicted of soliciting sex from underage girls?  No?  Hmmm.  It’s just stuff like that that I’m talking about.  Let’s say that Jenna Bush and Chelsea Clinton both get a D.U.I.  Which one do you think you’re going to hear more about?  Don’t be naive, you know that it would be the Bush story.  (Though Fox would run the Clinton story non-stop!)

Sure, a sitting president has sex in the Oval Office, that will hit the news circuits: not even a liberal bias can cover that up.  But even the decision about what stories are covered is part of the bias.  Anyway, read the article, let me know what you think.
